A real-life story

 

Maureen Forino and her husband Charlie lived with a damp home for six years, spending a fortune on moisture-absorbing  salt sachets, fitting air vents and replacing rotten, mouldy, blackened wallpaper with a water-resistant coating they believed would work. Needless to say, nothing did.

 

The couple had a chemically-injected damp-proof course installed when they originally bought their £215,000 home in Gidea Park, near Romford, Essex, seven years ago.


After spending £500 on a survey, which included having conventional damp-proofing treatment, they thought that was that.  Sadly, things started to go wrong.  First their bedroom, then the hall, became affected.

 

The chemical injection method of treating damp simply wasn’t working. And subsequent attempts by the damp-proofing company to get rid of the damp couldn’t stop the rot. “We wallpapered the bedroom again and three weeks later the damp came back,” said Mrs Forino.

 

“As you entered the house you couldn’t miss it,” said Mrs Forino, who, along with Charlie, is retired.  “It was a nightmare.  It was like living with a demon. We had six years of misery. The damp literally crept three feet up the bedroom wall. It was horrendous.”
