Damp proof problems are very common. Left untreated damp can cause structural problems to your home, can have adverse affects on your health and can make your home difficult to sell or remortgage.

The solution

The innovative method, by Holland Damp Proofing, is completely natural and doesn’t use harmful chemicals like other traditional damp proofing methods. Unlike chemical damp proof courses, which break down and need re doing every number of years, the Holland Damp Proof System® is a permanent solution.

By using specially designed bricks fitted into the outside wall, air is allowed to flow into the air chambers of the system and out again. On its way through the inside of the wall, this airflow causes moisture to evaporate, therefore drying out the wall.

The Holland Damp Proof System® can treat all three types of damp problems:

Rising damp is caused when moisture from the soil or ground is absorbed in to the walls, water usually rises about 3-4 ft in to the brickwork. Rising damp can affect adjoining woodwork which can lead to wet or dry rot. Over time rising damp ruins plasterwork, causes brickwork to deteriorate and rendering and tiles to fall off.

Condensation is the most common form of dampness in the UK. Condensation can be caused by structural problems in a building like damp walls, by day to day activities like sleeping, taking baths and showers and doing the laundry, or by a combination of both. When condensation occurs over a long period of time, bricks and plaster will get damp and mould can start to appear. Some types of buildings like bungalows are more prone to condensation than others.

Penetrating damp is moisture that penetrates into the structure of the building. It can be caused by leaking roofs, gutters, drains and pipes, by cracks and gaps in rendering, bad pointing or though rotten or badly sealed door and window frames. Penetrating damp is one of the main causes of wet rot.
